Using a Cell Phone in the EU

The European Union, including the twenty-seven members has recently approved in the plenary of the European Parliament, a new regulation concerning the price list of using the mobile phone inside the European Union. These new rules will be enforced starting with the 7th of June 2007 and the Minister Council of Telecommunications foresees that this summer the use of mobile phones in the European Union will be up to 70 % cheaper.

This regulation concerning the phone calls´ price has been approved in majority due also to the German leading of the agreement the 15th of May. The European Chamber defended the lower price of mobile phone calls and almost all the members of the Chamber accepted the commitment proposed by the German leading having as a unique objective the benefit of the reduction of prices during the next summer holidays.

The phone calls realized abroad and inside the European Union will have during the summer of 2007 a price established by this regulation, with a maximum of 0,49 euros per minute (value added taxes not included). The summer of the next year 2008, this limit will be reduced to 0,46 euros and to 0,43 in 2009. In order to receive phone calls abroad, the maximum price will be of 0,24 during this summer, of 0,22 the summer of 2008 and of 0,19 in 2009. The mobile phones´ companies of each country have the right to modify these prices as for the use of the national network, but these cannot exceed the limit of 0,30 euros per minute this summer, 0,28 euros the next year and 0,26 euros in 2009. These regulations will permit up to 70 % of discount for the mobile phones´ calls.
